The longest-running festival in Pennsylvania is the Three Rivers Film Festival. This Pittsburgh mainstay celebrates independent filmmaking in a variety of genres. Prizes are handed out for the best selections, too. Attend to see some great films you won’t get to watch anywhere else.

Each of these genres fits in with the overall theme, which explores the relationship between reality and the augmented reality of cinema.

Two main awards will be handed out at the festival: the Jury Award and the Audience Award. Each will be announced at the film screenings.

Starting November 17th, see an array of lavish and fanciful gingerbread houses on display. All are entries in the annual competition from local creatives. It’s totally free to check out, but donations will be accepted for the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh’s Free Care Fund.

Light Up Night

Holiday Display at PPG PlaceThis event at the MassMutual Pittsburgh Ice Rink supports The American Cancer Society and will serve as a holiday season kick-off on November 18. Performances from East End Kids and the RMU Island Sports Center Skaters will be capped off with the Tribute of Light and Plaza Tree Lighting.

Carriage Rides

Take a free spin behind a team of horses through Market Square during November and December. It’s a festive and fun way to experience downtown Pittsburgh.

Spirits of Giving From Around the World

This exhibit celebrates Christmas folklore and will be on display in the Wintergarden starting November 17. A giant Christmas tree will serve as the centerpiece for life-size Santa’s, gingerbread houses, and original paintings from all over the globe.
